Discrimination

I am writing about discrimination. I chose this topic because itโ€™s a topic that I wanted to dive a little deeper into. Racism is a form of discrimination. An example of racism that I have seen that affects Maori is being mocked for the colour of their skin. This can have very bad effects on people and can make them not like themselves. We need to help people learn and understand more about Maori culture and customs. People with disabilities also suffer from discrimination. An example is people in wheelchairs and how they get from one place to another. There may be places where there are stairs and so they are not able to go up and down. A solution to help make it more accessible can be to add ramps next to stairs, have elevators in places that help get to where they are going faster and also designing doorways wider that wheelchairs can fit through. is a form of discrimination. An example of racism that I have seen that affects Maori is being mocked for the colour of their skin. This can have very bad effects on people and can make them not like themselves. We need to help people learn and understand more about Maori culture and customs.

The temple trip!

The Temple trip!

On the 18th of May my class and me, (Room eleven) went on a trip to a temple. There were huge buses in front of each other. The whole class was excited to go on the bus. I was really excited because I have never been on this trip before. As we were walking outside, I saw every junior lined up straight. I also saw the seniors standing next to them, which probably means they were pairing on the trip. I was shaking in excitement because I was in a different class, which made it even more scary!

I had my friend Eliza to sit next to. The bus shook so much when the driver started the engine. Eliza told me not to be scared, and I just felt a little better. The drive was so long I felt sick, but eventually, we got off the bus and WOW! The temple looked spectacular. It was bright orange with brown all around. The grounds were perfectly looked after.ย

The cool thing about most trips I’ve been on, is that this time, we were put into groups of three. The lady asked, โ€œCan you please line up in teams of three, and we will start the tour?โ€ย

Each group was called into the temple one at a time. When our line finally went in, it was beautiful, I was blown away! There was a sandpit with a big statue over it. It was shiny gold. There were candles with numerous flowers. We all walked on into a maze, the maze had trees covering the pathway which made it difficult to navigate our way through. The instructor brought us to a really bright place. It had fairy lights all over, it had a mythical unicorn with yellow lights wrapping around its horns and body. She put on her microphone and said, โ€œOk, do you like watching movies?โ€ We all shouted, โ€œYES!โ€ So, she put on this movie explaining trust and faith.

This was a magical experience for me. I enjoyed every moment. The most important lesson I learnt was to be good and do good. Be peaceful and humble. I will try my best to bring some of these values into my daily life. Then the bus came and picked us up and on the way it was so noisy but I had the best time of my LIFE!
